Faraday Wax - DIY Historic High Vacuum Sealant
"Faraday Wax" is an old recipe for a red wax used extensively in the olden days for sealing vacuum vessels, making electrical feedthroughs and mounting objects in vacuo.
Herein I recreate the wax, and test a simple feedthrough in my vacuum system.
Faraday wax recipe:
by weight:
1 pt. beeswax
5 pt. colophony /pitch
1 pt. venetian red (Fe2O3)
melt the beeswax (approx 140C), add colophony gradually, then venetian red.
enjoy!
