On 13 September, 1960, Senators John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson appeared at a presidential campaign rally in the parking lot of Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie, TX. Noted for his aversion to wearing hats, JFK was presented with a cowboy hat that he first said he "didn't have the guts to wear," but at the conclusion of the appearance, placed it on his head and declared "I'm going to wear this in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Boston."
