How To Put Music On USB From Laptop & PC - Easy Tutorial

You can easily transfer music files from your laptop or PC to a USB flash drive by using drag-and-drop, copy-paste, or the context menu in File Explorer on Windows or Finder on macOS.

Step 1 — Prepare Your USB Flash Drive
Insert your USB flash drive into an available USB port on your laptop or PC.
Make sure the drive has enough free space for your music files.

If necessary, format the drive to a compatible file system (usually FAT32 or exFAT) to ensure it works on different devices. Be aware that formatting will erase all data on the drive.

Step 2 — Locate Your Music Files
Open File Explorer on Windows or Finder on macOS.
Navigate to the folder where your music is stored, such as Music or Downloads.

You can select individual files or entire folders containing multiple songs.

Step 3 — Transfer the Music Files

Option 1: Drag-and-Drop
Click and hold the files or folders you want to transfer, then drag them to your USB drive icon in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS). Release the mouse button to start copying.

Option 2: Copy and Paste

Right-click the selected music files and choose Copy.
Open your USB drive folder, right-click within it, and select Paste.

Option 3: Context Menu “Send To” (Windows)
Right-click your music files, select Send to, and then choose your USB flash drive from the list.

Step 4 — Safely Remove the USB Drive
Wait for all files to finish copying.
On Windows, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar and select your USB drive.

On macOS, drag the USB drive icon to Trash (which becomes an eject symbol) or click Eject next to the drive name in Finder.
Once the system indicates it is safe, remove the USB flash drive from the port.
