Feeding Horses Salt, Watermelon & Carrots - Keeping Old Salt Blocks In Feeders

Here I show a tip on how to give your horses some extra salt in hot, humid or during times of hard work. I always keep different types of salt and mineral blocks available to my horses, ensuring they are clean out of the sun, so they are not too hot for the horses to lick.

However, I sometimes want to encourage more water drinking so I add a little salt to my treats. When feeding apples, carrots or other treats you can wet them and sprinkle them with salt. I use normal table salt and some time coarse sea salt. Like most things with horses, less is more and you should not over do this and give too much salt, but periodically during special circumstances, giving a little extra won't hurt.
