1890s Chemise
In this video, I make a 1890s Chemise. It is based on a original from the V. and A. museum collection. http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O361236/camisole-of-teck-mary/
Why am I making Victorian underwear? Well, I am planning to attend a ball in the coming year. I will be making a ball gown from the inside out. One must start with the underpinnings. To achieve the correct silhouette it's all about the underwear! So, I will start with the undermost layer, the Chemise or Camisole. This garment is close to the camisoles we have to day in shape. Of course, there is more lace and decor. The Victorians love their decor. But the basic function of the Chemise is to sit under the corset to collect sweat and protect the corset. The chemise would have been laundered more than the corset. If you enjoy what you see, be sure to like, subscribe, and share with your friends!
