Energy crisis has been ‘a long time coming’

Australian Public Affairs Director Matthew Doman says Australia's energy crisis has been “a long time coming”.

He said Australia has managed the energy transition well in some jurisdictions and “much less well in others”.

“In the eastern states particularly we’ve seen a dependence on coal-fired power, which has served eastern Australia well for decades which is now being progressively phased out,” Mr Doman told Sky News Australia.

“And arguably is being shut down and neglected sooner than it ought to be.”

He said renewable energy is not ready to “pick up the slack” in eastern states.
