Indigenous Arabunna elder Uncle Kev has returned to his homelands in Alberrie Creek in the South Australian desert to continue the struggle against the BHP Billiton uranium mine. He needs your help to get him set up with supplies and a 4WD.

Alberrie Creek is in one of the most remote locations in the South Australian desert. It is a harsh desert environment, exposed to strong winds, sun and rain, outside of phone and internet range. But it is also the heart of the campaign on Arabunna land, right next to the BHP borefields and the ongoing construction of the new borefield water pipeline.

Uncle Kev has just arrived and set up camp with a tent, minimal infrastructure and limited supplies and firewood. With your help, we can support him to stay longer and continue the fight.

Lizard Bites Back

The Lizard Bites Back protestival 2016, spearheaded by Uncle Kevin Buzzacott, saw hundreds of protesters gather at Roxby Downs to take a stand against the BHP Billiton uranium mine.

The BHP mine has significant health, ecological and environment impacts on the region. The mine continues to take 42 million litres of water daily from the Great Artesian Basin through bores in Arabunna land to process mining ore.

After the Lizard Bites Back protestival, Uncle Kev and a small band of activists made the journey back up Borefield Road to the camp at remote Alberrie Creek near Lake Eyre, where he grew up, to continue the struggle against the BHP mine.

Right now, BHP is replacing the 120km-long borefield water pipeline through Arabunna land, with trucks carrying metres of concrete and steel pipeline past Uncle Kev's camp at Alberrie Creek every day.
