In this video, Dr. Patel performs Juvederm injection to the lips of a 23 year old female. He uses 1 mL of Juveerm Ultra to give the patient more lip definition and fullness. She no longer needs her Kylie Jenner lip kit!

There are several FDA approved fillers that can be used in the lips. This list includes Juvederm Ultra, Restylane, Volbella, and Restylane Silk. The filler chosen for a lip filler injection is based partly on physician preference and partly on the patient's needs and aesthetic goals. For example, if the patient wants more lip definition then Dr. Patel likes to use Volbella. However, if the patient requires more volume, then Dr. Patel will offer Juvederm Ultra. Radiesse and Sculptra should not be used in the lips. Juvederm lasts 6-9 months and Volbella may last up to 1 year in the lips. Restylane Silk last 3-4 months and Restylane last 6 months.

The lips are sensitive and so to help keep the patient comfortable, Dr. Patel uses a topical anesthetic and ice. The fillers also come mixed with Lidocaine.

When patients require more than 1 syringe of lip filler, Dr. Patel will usually start with 1 syringe at the first appointment and add as needed with subsequent followup appointments. His goal with filler injections anywhere on the face is to provider a natural looking enhancement. With each filler injection, the patient should look better but still look like his/her self.
