Elon Musk’s Hidden Solution That Made Raptor 3 Possible Shocked NASA Scientist!
Elon Musk is actually hiding a secret behind the production of the Raptor 3.
It took seven years of relentless effort to create the first Raptor engine.
Three years to perfect Raptor 2.
And now? Just two years to unleash at least 20 Raptor 3, an engine so advanced it has left the NASA engineers in awe.
Beyond its astonishing development timeline, SpaceX has revolutionized Raptor 3 with 22% more thrust, a 40% lighter design, and enhanced durability, setting a new standard for rocket propulsion.
So how did SpaceX pull this off? and why is no one talking about it?
Let’s find out all in today’s episode of Tech Map.

To see what secret breakthrough helped make Raptor 3 possible, let’s take a closer look at a recent move that’s making waves in the aerospace world. Last week, a brand-new Raptor 3 engine, clearly marked with serial number 20, was spotted at SpaceX’s test facility in Texas. And not long before that, another Raptor 3, bearing serial number 16, was seen heading into the test area.
Since the first Raptor 3 was spotted on August 3, 2024, SpaceX appears to have built at least 20 units over the past nine months. That works out to an average of about two to three engines per month, with some signs of a recent ramp-up, possibly reaching one engine per week. But that’s still a relatively slow pace, especially when compared to what SpaceX had already achieved with Raptor 2.

Back in November 2022, the company hit a production rate of more than one engine per day, that’s around 360 to 400 engines per year if maintained consistently. According to some reports, SpaceX built about 200 Raptor 2 engines throughout 2023 alone, averaging 16 to 18 units per month. That’s six to eight times faster than what we’re seeing with Raptor 3. So... why the slowdown?
Of course, the main reason is that Raptor 3, despite already outperforming Raptor 2 on paper, is still going through early testing and fine-tuning. SpaceX is using each test cycle to validate its reliability and optimize the design before ramping up to full-scale production.
