"Jovonie-A Christmas Angel" comes from a real life situation in which a 4 year old boy named Jovonie died of abuse and neglect on Christmas Day in 2003, starved and tied to his bed while his family celebrated in the other rooms. Gina took first place in the San Antonio Express-News "Carol Kings" Christmas carol contest in 2005, after writing and singing "Jovonie-A Christmas Angel". The mother of two sons herself, Gina says she was haunted by images of Jovonie as she decorated her Christmas tree with ornaments that featured pictures of her own children. "It was such a terrible, tragic story. No one, especially a child, should die that way." The song was officially recorded for this cd release, "A Holiday Collection", to ensure that Jovonie's memory will live on and to shed light on the tragic, senseless consequences of child abuse.
