Fastest dent fix ever!!

I actually have the full tutorial on fixing this bedside that I'll be uploading in the next few days.
Several shops in town wrote estimates on this vehicle and they all wrote this for a replacement panel. Replacing this panel would take probably 4-5 hours (minimum), you'd be drilling out the factory spot welds, re-welding and, as a result, compromising the integrity of the corrosion protection between the panels. I repaired the panel and had only a thin application of glazing putty in less than half that time.
To be profitable in the collision industry, it's important to get your repair percentage on the estimates to over 50%. I was overseeing a shop a few years ago that had a 12% repair/estimate stat. This shop struggled to be profitable at $300k+ gross sales every month...with a yearly net loss of over a quarter million dollars. I made several changes to the dynamics of the shop, the most important being repair vs replace procedures. We quickly grew the repair percentage to 50% repair/estimate and became 30% profitable on $190k/month. YES! More profits with less sales! Eventually we got to nearly 70% repair/estimate with a profitability of 40% on just over $200k/month. Net profits soared to over $300k for the first year. That's an increase in profits of over a half million dollars the first year!!

I tell you this because it's important to realize the benefits of repairing panels in this industry. Labor is profit. Replacing panels gets you maybe 15-30% profit on parts. Repairing panels nets you triple that after paying the technician. Not only does the tech and the shop make more money, but the customer typically pays less for the same repair, gets their vehicle home several days/weeks sooner and spends less out-of-pocket for their rental. Three ingredients for a happy customer.
When you deliver the vehicle earlier to the customer, you now have the opportunity to bring in more work. Repairing allows the shop to realize higher volume and more referrals because of faster cycle times. Who wouldn't want their vehicle back sooner and less costly...??
I urge shops and seasoned technicians to start investing time and funding in training of younger technicians. I see inexperienced, young techs in shops all over the country and it disappoints me that there is so much potential out there not being realized for lack of training facilities/funding.
If these younger techs can be trained properly, your shop profits soar, the tech makes more and their confidence and morale are boosted because they've taken something mangled and restored it to pre-accident condition. When confidence and morale are boosted, it has another affect....boosted productivity!
Start training your new techs today!!

Cheers!
