PETER GREENAWAY on PAINTING
Originally Peter Greenaway wanted to become a painter before he started directing artistic short films and celebrated a first worldwide success with THE DRAUGHTSMAN'S CONTRACT in 1982. He always kept a strong relationship to fine arts and painting in his work such as for his video installation project Nine Classical Paintings Revisited which were partly exhibited in Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum and the Venice Biennale in 2009. To us he spoke about the power of painting and what cinema could actually learn from it.
