Portugal's Anchor Cemetery - Cemitério das Âncoras

At Praia do Barril in Tavira, there's an anchor cemetery built from the rusted old anchors of a generation of fishermen whose livelihood was lost when they overfished the bluefin tuna that used to roam the sea in #Portugal. Cemitério das Âncoras, as it's known in Portuguese, is a startling sight, especially given that this environmental and social catastrophe occurred almost 70 years ago, and that within today's context of industrial fishing it's only a matter of a few decades before the world's oceans are completely barren and devoid of fish stocks. It was a strange but beautiful walk for the two of us, since the day before Ody (our van) had almost melted from the scorching temperatures in Sevilla en route to Portugal, and the very next day we spent a very hot afternoon sitting at a mechanic with a leaky water pump issue that would require leaving the van for a few days.

Question of the week: Anyone know of any other interesting, off-the-beaten-path sights like this we could see in Portugal or northern Spain? If you have a recommendation outside these regions feel free to share as well, though it might be a while till we get there ; )
