Repair of a Hamilton 915 classroom record player from 1997
I ended up replacing the 89T cartridge in this unit with a mono Tetrad cartridge. This cartridge only produced output from one channel (it was not combining the L and R channels of the record). So, I replaced it with a stereo Tetrad cartridge, wired for mono, and it works fine. Gary at the VM website said that the cartridge must be defective and that it is a true mono cartridge that is stereo compatible. Since the stereo Tetrad seems to be as hot as the mono Tetrad and is cheaper, I'll probably order the stereo Tetrad, for future projects, and wire it for mono (when used in mono equipment).
