Is g4 All Bark? — Zhu vs Erdogmus

Featured is an instructive chess game between Zhu Jiner and Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus from Round 3 of the 2026 TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament. Arising out of a b3 system, we observe a non-confrontational start. Both players arrange their pieces solidly, and we reach an original position after 10.Nd4. After Erdogmus declines the light-squared bishop exchange with ...Bg6, Zhu plays the committal g4 to support a jump to f5 once the d4-knight is challenged. The battle soon revolves around a position in which White has a half-open g-file while still uncastled, whereas Black has a strong pawn center with pawns on d5 and e5.
