Tips for using cheap clear stamps with dye ink and markers PLUS embossing!

I usually prefer rubber stamps or high quality photo-polymer stamps but I have to admit I love cheap clear sillicone stamps too. They are an affordable option for trendy designs that you want to have a crafty fling with. And if you do most of your shopping at a big box craft store they might be all that's available.

The downside to these stamps is that they often don't ink up very well and if you like to use markers or dye based ink like I do you can be out of luck....nah, I'll show you how to overcome this in today's tutorial!

Supplies:
cheap clear stamp
mounting block
dye ink pads
waterbased markers
paper or cardstock
(the following 3 supplies are only needed for embossing)
clear embossing ink pad OR a make up sponge and glycerin
clear embossing powder
heat tool

Step 1:
scuff the stamp (inking surface) with a fine emery board or pink pearl eraser.

Step 2: Apply ink and stamp

*This usually does the trick for inkpads but not always for markers if the stamp has a large solid area.

To emboss with dye ink or marker takes an extra step and product. You will need an embossing clear inkpad or a make up sponge and glycern. Stamp the image in the color you want, then clean the stamp and ink it up in clear ink (aka glycern) and stamp over your design taking care to line up the image perfectly. Add embossing powder, tap off the excess, and heat. Not bad for cheap stamps eh?
