Coach drivers staged a bus-honking protest in Paris on Monday, demanding government support for their sector, which has been majorly affected by COVID-19 protection measures imposed across most of the world.
Travel has been completely restricted in France after President Emmanuel Macron announced on March 16 the decision to reduce travel "to the bare necessity."
Busses drove through main streets in the capital and near the Arc de Triomphe, honking their horns.
President of the National Federation of Road Transport for Ile-de-France, Braija Khalid, expressed concern that the coach industry will "sink" soon.
"The insurances continue to run, rents also, workers on partial unemployment, we continue to pay them, and the government does nothing for us," he said.
Khalid pointed out that other sectors of the travel industry have been granted large sums of cash, including Air France-KLM who will receive €7 billion ($7.6 billion) from the French government, to keep them from going under during the worst recession in Europe's history.
"All sectors have aid except us," he added.
The coronavirus measures were relaxed beginning on May 11, area by area, according to French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. Leaving the country is still not permitted.
As of Monday, France has reported nearly 183,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, with more than 28,000 related deaths, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
