British expats in the famous Spanish resort town of Benidorm shared their views on life after Brexit on Wednesday ahead of the official end of the 11-month transition period on 31 December 2020.
"I don't think a lot of people were aware of the consequences" warned Karen Cowles, President of the British Business Association in Benidorm who said she was 'very in two minds' about Brexit impacts.
A particular area of concern that Cowles raised was the visa situation: "before people were like swallows, they came and went."
"Now that's not the case, you can only stay 90 days in any 180 days and you have to leave the country and go back to your country of origin for 90 days. That has been very difficult to get that across to people" said Cowles.
According to data from the United Nations from 2019, Spain hosts the largest community of British nationals within the EU, a figure that stands at approximately 302,000 citizens.
