Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story is a SonyLIV Originals Indian Hindi-language crime drama web-series which tells the real story of Harshad Mehta - the man who was behind the largest financial scam of the Indian stock markets. 

With over one billion USD defrauded. Mehta used a combination of corrupt officials who were willing to sign fake cheques, lies to the banks, and market loopholes to drive the prices of certain stocks up more than 40-fold. By showing banks that the conspirators were making good returns, banks made significant numbers of unsecured loans to them. Upon the realisation of the scam in April 1992 the Indian stock market collapsed, and the banks that had made the loans suddenly found themselves holding millions of USD of worthless debt.
