Video is OK for a 1.0" image sensor Sony RX100vii. Ideally I'd use a full frame sensor camera like the Sony FX3.
My usual Shure MV88 stereo mic glitched to full scale +36dB gain -- apparently due to a perfect storm confluence of four factors:
1 Rube Goldbergian setup with an iPod Touch host for MV88 power and storage, velcro'd to the camera
2 iPod Touch screen activating inadvertently - maybe due to shake-to-wake on
3 Shure MOTIV app screen active, and the screen with an active mic level slider
4 my index finger knuckle activating the mic level slider inadvertently
Made that audio a distorted mess. I thought the show was lost--but the RX100vii built in stereo mic audio I considered throwaway, was surprisingly usable. Though it doesn't have the extreme lows and highs and loudness handling of the MV88. And I just happened to have the camera mic level set to near lowest 1/32 or 2/32; otherwise the built-ins would have also overloaded. I did what I could with multiband compression to make the audio passable.
