Tips:
If you are on a budget buy a big pack of sharipes or Bic Mark-its, they are alcohol pens, and then purchase only the lightst shades of art markers as you can afford it. They will all work together.

If you don't have or want to use alcohol markers use waterbased markers or watercolors as your marker layer and layer over with colored pencils as I showed you.
