Paquita is definitely a great Vaganova extravaganza, with the great young students in the mazurka plus the fabulous pas de trois and the great grand pas, highlighting the ballerina, who I feel is the best young ballerina in the world, the beautiful Alexandra Khiteeva. She has extraordinary technique, the best arms of any of the recent graduates, prima ballerina stage presence, plus lovely upper body movements and a flow of movements that is superb. Just ask her Vaganova teacher, former Kirov Ballet star, Irina Sitnikova, and she will say that I underestimate her talent.
Khiteeva is a perfect example of the problems in today's Mariinsky. There are inferior recent graduates who are 1st soloist and 2nd soloists, but Khiteeva has not gotten out of the corps de ballet on the roster, a crime in my opinion.
Sasha Khiteeva's partner is Mikhail Barkidjidza.
