FRAUD ALERT 2021: BULK SMS FRAUD जो डर गया समझो गया।

NOIDA: Police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang of cybercriminals with the arrest of four persons who had allegedly hacked the website of a bulk SMS provider and duped some 30 lakh people of over Rs 100 crore. Ankti Ramola, Harshit Ramola, Aakash Bansal and Akash Kansal were nabbed by a team of cyber cell and local police in Sector 100 on Thursday.
While Ankit and his brother Harshit are residents of Delhi’s Ganesh Nagar, Aakash and Akash are from Greater Noida and Hapur, respectively. Police said the four had hacked the website of Nimbus Adcom and sent messages to 90 lakh people across the country, offering the latest iPhone models within Rs 5,000. Of their potential targets, officials said, some 30 lakh fell prey to the gang, with each transferring between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 to multiple Paytm accounts to avail the one-time offer.
Cyber cell in-charge Baljeet Singh said that the accused had created a fake ID on the website of Nimbus for the sale of high-end mobile phones. “Multiple Paytm accounts would be provided on the website through which payment would be accepted. While most customers would stop after a transaction, others who would continue to be in touch with the accused and would be duped further. Not a single phone was sold,” he said
Cops said that they have so far been able to trace Rs. 43 crore of transactions in a single Paytm account. Ten mobile phones, five laptops, 12 debit cards, four Aadhaar cards, three PAN cards, two cheque books, and Rs 17 lakh in cash have been seized from their possession.
Police had first received a complaint from Nimbus Adcom in August this year about their website being hacked. In their complaint to Phase III police station, company officials alleged someone created an account on their server and broadcasted fraud SMSs to around 90 lakh people with the content: “Buy iPhone 11 PRO MAX @4999 BUY IPHONE XR @ 3500 BUY IPHONE @ 3299.
