In this video, you will learn some interesting information about the Pride of Pune – Shaniwar Wada. The historical palace that stands to tell the glory of maratha empire. With the history of around 300+ years, the Shaniwar Wada is a must visit place in Pune.

The foundation of Shaniwar Wada was laid on Saturday, 10th January 1730, hence the name. It took around 2 years to complete the construction and the total cost incurred at that time was Rs.16,110.

Did you know there are around 5 Darwazas (Doors) the huge entrance and first darwaza being the Delhi Darwaza. The other four are Narayan Darwaza, Ganesh Darwaza, Khidki Darwaza and Mastani Darwaza.

The palace was of seven storeys initially but the other six wooden storeys collapsed in fire and only the stone base floor remains there to tell the story.
There is a horror story associated with fort. The most infamous legend centers around Narayanrao Peshwa, a young prince who became ruler at the tender age of 16. But power, as they say, attracts enemies—even within one’s own family. Narayanrao’s uncle Raghunathrao, who harbored ambitions of his own, was placed under house arrest by the young Peshwa.

Blinded by greed, Raghunathrao’s wife Anandibai plotted to seize power. It is said that she altered a message meant to merely capture Narayanrao, changing it to kill him. The message, delivered to the assassins, sealed the boy’s fate.

One dark night in 1773, the palace halls echoed with the sound of Narayanrao’s terrified screams as he was chased down by mercenaries. He ran through the corridors, banging on doors, pleading:

“Kaka! Mala vachva!”
(“Uncle! Save me!”)

But no one came.

He was caught and brutally murdered, his dismembered body allegedly thrown into the nearby river.

Since that gruesome night, locals and guards claim that on every new moon night, especially during Amavasya, the fort comes alive with Narayanrao’s ghostly cries still begging for help. People have reported hearing that same bone-chilling plea:

“Kaka! Mala vachva!”

Many believe his restless spirit still roams the fort, unable to find peace.

Due to the countless reports of paranormal activity, no one is allowed inside Shaniwarwada after sunset.
