The MOJAVE ROAD: Ford Transit + Jeep Rubicon + Suzuki

On this epic family adventure we traveled 150 miles off road across the Mojave Desert with our 4x4 convoy: Ford Transit, Jeep JKU Rubicon and a Suzuki Grand Vitara. We spent four nights along the scenic and beautiful Mojave Road (plus side tracks). We started at the Colorado River, swimming and skipping rocks in the crystal clear water, and ending up across the Mojave desert in Afton Canyon.

The Mojave Road follows a historic Native American trade route and Pioneer wagon path used by settlers traveling west. Truly one of the most remote and isolated trails in America without services or pavement for 150 miles over all types of off road terrain from rocky hill climbs and washes, river crossings, washboard, whoops, sand dunes and wide open desert tracks. Traveling the Mojave Road is one of the last opportunities to experience the West similar to how the original settlers found it.

The trip was filled with massive vistas, white sand dunes, ancient native petroglyphs, vast Joshua Tree forests, cinder cones, sharp cactus, big lava tubes, trains and tracks, dry salt flats, brilliant stars, black lava flows, slot canyons with deep caves, oddities and novelties, borax mines, drop-offs, brilliant sunsets, delicious camp food, music and good family time. Wildlife along the way included lizards, birds, bugs, bats and bighorn sheep. Without side tracks the Mojave Road is approximately 130 miles long.
