About this video:

Hello, my name is Tony Liu, and I am the founder of Focus Law.
Today we are going to talk about California's new COVID-19 paid sick leave law and who can apply for it.

If you work in California, stay till the end. On Feb 19 the governor signed a new law that requires employers to pay for qualifying paid sick leave starting Jan. 1, 2022. The paid sick leave requirement expires on Sept.

There are certain restrictions in this law. It only applies to employers with more than 25 employees. The employee will be granted the paid sick leave if he is unable to work or telework due to the following reasons:

– The employee is subject to a quarantine or isolation period related to COVID-19, or is taking care of a family member who has been advised to quarantine.
– The employee has been advised by a health care provider to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19.
– The employee is attending an appointment for themselves or a family member to receive a vaccine or a vaccine booster for protection against COVID-19, subject to certain limitations.
– The employee is experiencing symptoms or caring for a family member experiencing symptoms, related to a COVID-19 vaccine or vaccine booster.
– The employee is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
– The employee is caring for a child whose school or place of work is closed or unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19.
– If the employee, or a family member for whom the employee is providing care, tests positive for COVID-19.

The employee is eligible for potentially up to 80 hours of leave available, depending on the reasons for the leave. What do you think about this new law? Do you think it could be better? Leave it in the comments. I would love to hear your thoughts.

If you are an employer in California and need help adjusting your company to the new laws, don't hesitate to call me or send me a message. My team of professional business lawyers and I will be more than happy to help you. You will be glad that you did.
