Most obscure Masters Winners

Victory at Augusta National is among the most coveted titles in golf. Most of the greats have slipped on the green jacket, but every so often, someone flies under the radar and steals the show. Here are 3 of the most obscure Masters winners:

3. Herman Keiser (1946) 🇺🇸
Keiser was an outsider. Rumour has it tournament officials failed to notify him of a tee time change in round three, gave him a 13-year-old caddie, and in the final round, he was often hitting over spectators as they wandered toward the green. Still, he held off Ben Hogan by a shot. That’ll teach ’em.

2. Danny Willett (2016)
In the year of Jordan Spieth’s infamous quadruple bogey at the 12th, one man quietly took control. Willett, then ranked top 15 in the world, flew in under the radar and posted a clinical 67—capped by a birdie on 16—to win by three.

1. Larry Mize (1987) 🇺🇸
At Greg Norman’s expense, Mize delivered one of the most iconic shots in Masters history—chipping in from the right of the 11th green on the second playoff hole. An Augusta native who grew up just across the fence from Amen Corner, he had only one tour win to his name before donning the green jacket.
