GAS or DIESEL PUSHER Motorhome (Why we chose our RV)

Why did we buy a GAS RV instead of DIESEL PUSHER and are we happy with our choice? Do we have any regrets now that we have been Full Time RV Living for the last two months. We researched and shopped for RVs for over a year before buying our rig and joining the Full Time RV Lifestyle. In this video we share our opinion and the PROs and CONs of buying and owning both a GAS RV MOTORHOME and a DIESEL PUSHER RV MOTORHOME.

We are super happy with our 2020 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 36 LA GAS Motorhome. Our RV is built on the Ford F53 Chassis with a Ford Triton V10 6.8 liter engine. We upgraded to the 26,000 chassis & added Safe T Plus and SumoSprings to the front & Liquidspring to the back to make our rig drive and handle as close to a Diesel Pusher as possible (at a fraction of the cost of a new Diesel RV).

So here are just a few of the reasons why we bought a GAS Class A RV Motorhome.

1. Cost and Budget. Diesel Pusher RVs cost a lot more to purchase then Class A Gas RV Motorhomes. We did not want to take out an RV Loan on something that is going to depreciate. We wanted to purchase a brand new RV that fit our budget and that we could afford to buy for cash and then be 100% debt free.

2. Total Cost of ownership. Diesel Pushers cost a lot more for maintenance & upkeep on an annual and lifetime basis than a Gas RV. Oil changes, tires, parts, mechanics, etc. are much less expensive for a Gas RV than a Diesel Pusher. Plus Diesel Fuel and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) cost a lot more than regular Gasoline.

3. Convenience and cost. It is much easier and cheaper to find a Ford Dealership or mechanic to work on our Gas RV instead of trying to find a Diesel Mechanic for a Diesel Pusher. Much easier to find gasoline than diesel fuel during our travels.

4. Features were very important to us. We wanted to get the most RV features for our budget and we wanted to keep our overall length to under 40 feet. Since we both work full time while we are Full Time RVing we wanted to make our rig feel and function like a regular home (but just on wheels). To get the same things on a new Diesel Pusher that we did on our new Gas RV it would have cost $100,000 or more than what we spent on our 2020 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 36 LA.

Some of the features that were important to us are:

- Bath and a half
- Full Size Washer and Dryer (not a combo washer and dryer)
- Computer Workstation with tables and chairs instead of Booth Dinette
- Residential Fridge
- Upgraded Solid Surface Countertops
- Upgraded Cabinets

5. Our Travel Style. We will only be moving every 1 to 3 weeks (probably 2 weeks on average) so that means we will only drive our Motorhome 26 to 40 days per year. We like to drive 2 to 4 hours (200 to 300 miles) per day. The average Full Time RVers only drives 5,000 to 7,000 milers per year.

So at the end of the day the Class A Gas RV Motorhome was the better value and the best choice (for us) than a Diesel Pusher RV.

Here are some of the myths or reasons why we heard a Diesel Pusher was better than a Gas RV.

1. More towing capacity. Diesel Pushers can easily tow 10,000 to 15,000 LBS and may be better if you have a heavier tow vehicle or tow a large trailer with toys. We do the chase follow method and are not using a tow dolly or flat towing so that is not an issue for us. We may get a vehicle that can be flat towed in the future but it will weigh less than the 5,000 lbs that our hitch is rated for on our Gas RV.

2. Diesel Pushers are quieter than Gas RVs because the engine is in the rear. Our engine is super quiet and we barley hear it at all. Not an issue for our Tiffin.

3. Better suspension, better ride and handling. We upgraded the chassis & added Safe T Plus & SumoSprings to the front & Liquidspring to the back to make our rig drive and handle as close to a Diesel Pusher as possible (at a fraction of the cost of a new Diesel RV).

4. More cargo capacity on a Diesel Pusher. Our basement storage on our Tiffin Allegro Open Road is huge and has just as much if not more storage than a lot of Diesel Pushers.

5. Diesel Pushers do have nicer & bigger interiors but that comes at a much higher price tag.
