So You Want to Start a COVID 19 Podcast — Webinar April 21, 2020
With COVID-19 dominating so much of our local and national news coverage, and with coronavirus podcasts seemingly multiplying by the day, public media stations may be asking a couple questions: Is it worth it to start a coronavirus podcast now? If so, how can it be done (without overhauling your whole newsroom) in a way that moves the global conversation forward and engages your local audience?
PRX and PMJA hosted this free, interactive webinar to showcase how five public radio stations from across the country are using COVID-19 podcasts to reach and engage new and existing audiences – and to share tips on how to start the process if you’re considering it.
We believe, even with all the uninterrupted news coverage and a growing ecosystem of COVID-19 podcasts, this is a great opportunity to deepen engagement with your community around this enormous global event. Whether you want to expand on your current news coverage or provide a whole new outlet for your listeners, this webinar will offer lessons learned from stations that developed coronavirus podcasts – quickly and thoughtfully. These producers, from PRX’s Project Catapult – PRX’s training program and podcast accelerator for public media stations – will share how they went from a “crazy idea” to a full-fledged podcast, using key design thinking principles that prioritize collaboration, iteration and an audience-first strategy.
Featuring:
Aaron Henkin, WYPR Baltimore, The Daily Dose
Brad Turner, Colorado Public Radio, At a Distance
Kinsee Morlan, KPBS, San Diego Matters
Tim Lloyd, St. Louis Public Radio, We Live Here
Sam Whitehead, WABE Atlanta, Did You Wash Your Hands?
