How to Measure Resistor Value Using DT830D Multimeter
How to Measure Resistor Value Using DT830D Multimeter (Full Step-by-Step Guide)
In this video, I will show you exactly how to read and test a resistor's value using the DT830D digital multimeter without needing a color code chart. Since there is no audio, you can follow the complete step-by-step instructions written below!

--- STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ---
STEP 1: PLUG IN THE PROBES
• Connect the Black probe to the bottom port labeled "COM".
• Connect the Red probe to the middle port labeled "VΩmA" (This port is used for voltage, resistance, and small currents).
STEP 2: SET THE MULTIMETER DIAL
• Look for the Resistance section on your meter, which is marked by the Omega symbol (Ω).
• Turn the dial to the 20k or 200k setting if you do not know the value of your resistor.
STEP 3: MEASURE THE RESISTOR
• Touch the metal tip of the Red probe to one leg of the resistor.
• Touch the metal tip of the Black probe to the other leg of the resistor. (Resistors do not have positive or negative sides, so it doesn't matter which side is which!)
STEP 4: FIXING THE "1" READING (IMPORTANT)
• If your meter screen just displays a "1" on the far left side, it means the resistor has a HIGHER value than your current dial setting.
• Turn your dial up to the next higher setting (like 200k or 2M) until numbers appear on the screen.
⚠️ CRUCIAL SAFETY TIP: When measuring high-resistance resistors, do not touch the metal tips of both probes with your bare fingers at the same time. Your body has its own electrical resistance, and touching both sides will give you a wrong reading on the meter!
