How To Configure Access Point Using The GUI/CLI Interface -Autonomous Cisco Aironet Mode - Part 02
One device in CUWN is a lightweight AP, controlled by a Cisco Wireless Controller (WLC). Use Lightweight AP Protocol (LWAPP) to communicate between AP and WLC. This is the type of communication management and through encrypted LWAPP. Client data is sent into LWAPP frame headers for transit from the AP to the WLC.
The LWAPP header contains not only data but also information about the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). WLC uses this information to improve coverage APs are of two types:
- Autonomous APs
- Lightweight APs APs have many types, each with a different feature. Among product vendors, Cisco APs are known for providing the best coverage. Let's take a look at Cisco's AP product lines in turn
• Series 1130AG
- It works in 3 standard 802.11a/b/g and has built-in antenna
- Working in both autonomous and lightweight modes. And can work as a Hybrid Remote Edge AP (H-REAP) device.
- Complies with 802.11i/WPA2 standards. It has 32MB of RAM, 16MB of flash memory. Deployed in offices, hospitals. It has 3dB and 4.5dB gain for 2.4 and 5GHz frequency respectively
The device in the video used to update the firmware is the access point
AIR-AP1131G-x-K9 , for other Cisco devices, you can update the same.
k9w7 – autonomous IOS
k9w8 – full lightweight IOS (this is what is bundled in the WLC .aes image, and is factory installed on “mesh” APs)
rcvk9w8 – lightweight recovery image – this is factory installed on lightweight APs, unless a “mesh” image is specified; it lacks radio firmware
