BOTH HOURS: Jimmy Akin - Open Forum
More Catholic Apologetics: https://catholic.com
00:00:00 - We will begin shortly
00:01:26 - Introduction
00:11:04 - How can we rightly talk about the soul in terms of relational but not physical terms?
00:21:10 - If we’re not in a state of grace and we’re praying, do the prayers not get through to God because we’re not in a state of grace? Will they then get retroactively answered after confession?
00:25:05 - Jimmy writes that the verse about cutting sin off is not literal. How are we so confident that if we were to be literal about it that it would not be a grave sin?
00:34:24 - What’s the difference between Catholic and just Christian?
00:38:20 - How should we as Catholics respond to the Asbury University revival? Also, can a Catholic receive communion at an Orthodox church and vice versa?
00:47:20 - In Deuteronomy 21:10-14, is the captive war bride being or not?
00:52:01 - In the gospel of John, why would it be unfitting for Jesus to say, “When you see me, you see the Holy Spirit”?
00:56:26 - 5-minute break
01:01:26 - Welcome back!
01:03:21 - I attend a protestant bible study often and in the coming weeks we’re getting to John 20. What are some common Protestant arguments for it and how can I respond to them?
01:15:18 - Something Jimmy quotes in The Fathers Know Best on St Ignatius’ letter to the Smyrnaeans is that some people abstain from the Eucharist because they don’t believe it’s the flesh. Since this is in the short version and there is a longer version, how do we know which versions of these early Christian writings are reliable or if any of them are?
01:22:30 - A fellow parishioner said the Devil must have been surprised at the resurrection. Of course, Satan knew Jesus was the son of God but how can I point him in the right direction?
01:31:13 - Can you explain how you know Jesus and God exist without making any biblical references? I have adult children who were raised Catholic, left the faith, and nothing I say works to convince them of the existence of Jesus and God.
01:37:42 - Can a Catholic who married in the Baptist church, and got divorced, then get married in the Catholic Church?
01:43:22 - Is it possible to know the existence of angels through natural reasons alone?
