So America has finally succeeded in gaining access to Ukraine's critical minerals. During Pope Francis's funeral, a brief meeting took place between Trump and Zelenskyy, which Trump described as productive. ​Now, reports are emerging that the U.S. and Ukraine have signed an agreement granting America access to Ukraine’s vast natural resources, including valuable rare earth minerals such as titanium, uranium, and lithium. In doing so, Ukraine has shifted its stance and opened its doors to American investments. Trump had been consistently pressuring Zelenskyy regarding the minerals deal, believing that in return for helping Ukraine, America should also receive something in exchange. Zelenskyy, who is desperately seeking military and financial aid from the U.S., could not resist Trump’s pressure for long and eventually agreed to make concessions in the form of a critical minerals deal. Now that U.S. interests are directly involved—and since Trump wants everything to move quickly and smoothly—he is likely to push Russia harder for a ceasefire.
