Edwards Receives 2018 Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award

Marc Edwards is the recipient of the AAAS Award for Scientific Freedom and Responsibility. Edwards is a civil/environmental engineer and the University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech. He is honored for his extraordinary efforts on behalf of the public health, safety and welfare. He has crusaded against lead in drinking water and revealed contaminated water supplies in several notable cases. In both Flint, Michigan and Washington, DC, Edwards and his research team were called to test the water, and discovered dangerous lead levels missed by regulators. And in both cases, he persevered despite severe hostility from public officials.
