In this video, we cover the Union Cabinet's approval of India’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the period 2031-2035, which will be communicated to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This historic decision sets ambitious targets to reduce emissions intensity and increase the share of non-fossil fuel energy. India aims to reduce emissions intensity by 47% by 2035 from 2005 levels and achieve 60% of electric power from non-fossil fuel sources. The country also aims to create a carbon sink of 3.5 to 4.0 billion tonnes of CO₂ equivalent through forest and tree cover by 2035. These goals align with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
