Review of fertilizer production processes

Presentation of the work "Review of fertilizer production processes" at the 1st Brazilian Phosphate Congress, carried out by MSc. Sebastião Ailton Rodrigues on 03/06/2024.

Fertilizers are mineral or organic substances, obtained naturally or industrially, that provide plants with the basic nutrients necessary for their development. The main objective is to return to the soil the elements removed in each harvest. Fertilizers are categorized according to their nature, composition, and type of primary macronutrient. Phosphate fertilizers are products generated from the processing of phosphate rock. Superphosphates are the products resulting from the reaction of phosphate concentrate with acids. Nitrogen is the basic raw material for the production of nitrogen fertilizers such as ammonia. To manufacture ammonia, the reaction of nitrogen, readily available in the air, is required with hydrogen, which can be obtained from different sources - natural gas, naphtha, coal, asphalt waste. Almost all potassium fertilizer used in Brazilian agriculture is supplied in the form of potassium chloride, which is a water-soluble product.

He has a master's degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Phosphoric acid purification and is a consulting partner at CEFERTT-Consultoria Especializada em Fertilizados e Ensino Técnico, a company operating in the area of process engineering in fertilizers and limestone and gypsum granulation.
