How to Build a Wine Rack | DIY Wine Rack Minwax Wood Stain

Pete shows us how to build a simple wine rack that will hold six to eight wine bottles and six large wine glasses. A wine rack is a simple way to add style to your kitchen or dining room while increasing the efficiency of the space.

To start, cut all of your boards to length. A miter saw is the easiest way to do this, but you can also use a circular saw or a handsaw. You should end up with eleven total boards. Next, clean up any rough edges with the orbital sander, then use a jigsaw to create the rounded corners that will give your wine rack that professional look.

After you’ve created the rounded corners, it’s time to measure and trace the slots for the wine glasses. Once you’ve measured and drawn all of your lines, use a drill and a jigsaw to make all six of the notches.

Now you’re ready to start assembling. Use glue, nails or screws, and pre-drilled jig holes to ensure a neat, professional-looking fit.

After a final sanding, the next step is to stain and add a clear protective finish to your project. If you are looking to save time, apply a one step, easy to use product like Minwax Polyshades, in the color of your choice, following the label instructions. Polyshades is a stain and polyurethane in one, so you won’t have to do two separate steps of applying a stain and then a clear protective finish on top.

Once PolyShades has fully dried, the next step is to attach the wine rack to the wall. To do this, drill holes in the back of the wine rack, find the studs in your wall, then attach the wine rack to the studs using three-inch wood screws.

The last and most important step is to fill up your wine rack and enjoy it! This DIY wine rack will be a useful, beautiful conversation piece for years to come, and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you built it yourself.
