E-Stop on both the head control and the Acu-Rite G2 Control
Whether the operator is standing near the control or on the other side of the table,
either one of the e-stops will do the same function by shutting down the machine completely.
Safety Microswitch for Switching Gears
The spindle rotates according to what the forward/reverse switch is set to while on high gear. Traditionally, however, the direction goes the opposite way when in low gear, requiring the operator to be mindful about switching it to reverse in order to cut.
On the Kent USA CNC Knee Mills, the motor is equipped with a microswitch that toggles it to reverse when it is shifted to low gear.
In other words, the spindle will always be rotating correctly in both high and low gear.
This prevents any potential damage on the tool, the machine itself, or the operator should this be overlooked.
Ability to Set the RPM Directly onto the Acu-Rite G2 Control
You can set the RPM directly onto the CNC control. This allows you to preset the spindle speed for the corresponding tools. When you change the tools in the right sequence, it will automatically set the RPM back to the speed that you set for that particular tool.
Digital Inverter Drive Head
With the digital inverter drive head, there’s less moving internal components than a standard variable speed head. The standard variable speed heads traditionally have cone shaped pulleys – one that’s sitting over the spindle and one under the motor – that vary in pitch by moving in and out and vice versa. The belt length remains the same. The speed changes by the varying pitches. This traditionally can only be done via crank. We can do it digitally with our frequency drive.
Spindle Load Meter
The DRO on the head control shows the spindle load, this can aid in detecting if cutters are starting to wear out.
Traditionally, you detect it manually through listening or feeling any additional required pressure when moving the table.
But it may be difficult to detect if it’s being moved by the servo.
The spindle load meter provides a proactive visual reference. Once you detect an unusual load, you can immediately stop the machine, change the tool, and then resume.
