Ayan Sengupta’s sitar style expertly blends the vocalistic turns of his gurus, who include singers such as Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty as well as esteemed sitarists Pandit Manilal Nag, Pandit Partha Chatterjee, and Pandit Kushal Das. He also learned from his grandfather, another vocalist, who gifted his grandson some biryani after he received his first scholarship, but also cautioned him, saying “This is your gift. But, don’t think what you’ve achieved is the end. This is just the beginning”.

In 2007 won the All India Radio youth sitar competition, and aged 21 the station awarded him an ‘A’ grade rating, making him one of the first sitarists born in the 1990s to achieve this accolade. Outside of classical he has participated in a 'fusion reality TV show', #LifeIsMusic, alongside artists such as Taufiq Qureshi, Purbayan Chatterjee (who also appears at the VR 360 Festival), and Indian jazz godfather Louis Banks.

Pratik Shrivastava is a talented young sarod player, known for crystal-clear taans (melodic elaborations) and superb layakari (rhythmic interplay). He was inducted into the instrument’s rituals by his family, first learning from his grandfather Pandit Rabi Chakraborty and then his uncle Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty, both artists of Ustad Allauddin Khan’s Maihar gharana.

He began touring the world as a teenager, winning several awards and appearing at the International Children’s Festival in Amman, Jordan. Today he receives advanced instruction from vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty as well as senior sarodia Pandit Tejendra Majumdar. He enjoys listening to jazz, flamenco, and psytrance as well as Indian classical of the North and South.

Debjit Patitundi is a young tabla maestro. He took up the instrument aged four, learning first under his father Amal Patitundi and then from his father’s guru Pandit Shankha Chaterjee. Their fruitful decade spent as guru-shishya (master-student) saw Debjit win various competitions, including All India Radio's 2009 Tabla competition, and appear frequently on national TV.

He soon became one of All India Radio’s youngest ‘A’ grade Hindustani percussionists, and recently has represented his country internationally, travelling to Spain as part of an Indian cultural delegation and making his London debut in 2018. Debjit currently receives advanced instruction from eclectic maestro Pandit Subhankar Banerjee.

Patdeep is a late afternoon or evening raga, associated with the blazing heat of the Indian summer. It is considered to be of comparatively recent origin, having been codified through the works of V.N. Patwardhan, Pt Ramashreya Jha, and Pt Manikbuwa Thakurdas. Western listeners may find a strange familiarity in the raga through its rough similarities to the Melodic Minor shape, beloved by European classical composers for centuries.
