Conventional vs Digital Dentures
Conventional dentures can have so many steps that can lead to discrepancies in their fabrication; from the teeth being set up in wax and the wax shrinking, to teeth moving while processing, and to acrylic shrinking while being cured. All of these discrepancies lead to an ill fitting denture that can cause many adjustment appointments once the denture is given to the patient.
The digital denture workflow starts by using a very accurate scanner, that can scan the impressions or models with an accuracy of up to 4 microns. The scans are then transferred to the software, where precise algorithms set up the dentures in accurate occlusion. The dentures can then be sent to either a printer or a milling machine, where there will be no shrinkage of the material creating a very precise denture fit for the patient. This process lessens or eliminates any adjustments after the dentures have been delivered.
