Small Bowel Inflammation
Audience: Residents and Fellows
Learning Objectives:
Identify and describe the different manifestations of inflammation in the small bowel
Provide a differential diagnosis for the etiology of small bowel inflammation
Summary:
Uniform wall thickening of the small bowel in nonspecific, but usually related to inflammation or edema
With IV contrast mural stratification is the most typical pattern
Often associated with mesenteric edema
Short segment and/or multiple segments think Crohn
Isolated to the terminal ileum think infectious or Crohn
