A Dead Man Touched Elisha's Bones — He Rose To His Feet

In 2 Kings 13, Elisha had died and his body was buried in a tomb. While a group of Israelites were burying another man, they saw a band of Moabite raiders. They quickly threw the dead man into Elisha's grave. The moment the dead man's body touched Elisha's bones, he revived and stood up. The Hebrew word used here is qum, meaning to rise. This same word is used in Ezekiel 37:10 to describe the resurrection of the dry bones, demonstrating God's sovereign power over life and death. Fathers from the Church of the East, such as Aphrahat, read this as a demonstration of God's power to resurrect. Elisha's bones were not the source of the power, but rather the means of transmission. The dead man did not rise because of his own merits, but because he came into contact with the bones of a prophet. Elisha's grave became a threshold, showing that the power of God still resonates.

📖Key Scriptures:
2 Kings 13:20-21 — "Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring."

Ezekiel 37:10 — "the resurrection of the dry bones"
