Behind the Scenes: Lego Saturn V Rocket Launch

A few months ago I produced a VFX launch sequence of my Lego Saturn V rocket (the rocket used in the Apollo moon missions). A bunch of people asked me how that was done, so here’s an edit showing some of the elements that were shot to assemble the final product. Model photography is fun!

All elements were shot by me. I used my LEGO Saturn V, layers of steam from a water kettle, motion control with a blue screen, dropped bits of paper... whatever I had available to me. The elements were composited together in Final Cut Pro X. Audio came from the fine folks at Epidemic Sound.
