God could have created the universe in a single instant.

So why does Genesis 1 describe six days of creation and a seventh day of rest?

Genesis 1 has a beautiful structure. Days 1–3 form the realms. Days 4–6 fill those realms. Then the seventh day crowns the whole account with divine rest.

This shows that creation is not random. It is ordered, purposeful, blessed, and ruled by God.

The six days are not a limitation on God’s power. They are a revelation of God’s wisdom.
