Hybrid Mixing Sessions - Part 1 - Real-Time Effects & Analog Gear at The Friary Studios

In this 3-part series, mixing engineer Freemonk generously allows us to copy a page of his mixing notebook. Treating every mixing session as a performance, he was more than excited to put a shine to some gospel-tinged vocals over a heavily swung funk groove. Freemonk and assistant engineer Ivo Sotirov stayed true to the SSL 4000G console and other vintage analog gear at “The Friary Studios” but added various onboard effects from their Orion 32+ | Gen 3.

In the first part, you can hear him explain the challenge to find the song’s “protagonist” and mix MckNasty’s drums, the bass, and virtual instruments like the keys and the organ.
