Basic Hand Technique for Drums - Penny Larson

This a brief demonstration of some of the beginning techniques I show students in their first few lessons. I use terms that are far from standardized, so I always try to offer a visual demonstration of any term I use; the terms are just a means to a motion/sound, after all. A key component of my teaching philosophy is the individuality of each student and their particular needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Therefore, while this video show some of my standard techniques and approaches, the specifics of achieving the finished product are personalized for each student. This is by no means a definitive survey of hand technique, just some basics that work for me with my students.
