WEBISODE | The Black Hole: Los Alamos' Own Curiosity Shoppe | New Mexico PBS

http://www.newmexicopbs.org - I learned of Ed Grothus from a friend who is writing a book about Oak Ridge, Tenn., a town that developed -- like Los Alamos -- around the development of the Atomic Bomb.

Grothus has lived in Los Alamos for 59 years. He came to work at the labs, and did so for twenty years before quiting because of political differences. Since that time, he's purchased the labs leftover equipment and, in turn, sells it at his store called the Black Hole.

Since leaving the labs, Grothus has become an outspoken in his views of nuclear proliferation. In his words, "One bomb is too many." He's had two monuments to the bomb's creation commissioned, but he has nowhere to place the twin obelisks. Yet, Grothus is a lovable character.
