Lecture 3. Functionalization of nanoparticles from nanotoxicology perspective
In this lecture, we will be talking about the main strategies to functionalize nanoparticles with different molecules. The first part will be devoted to PEGylation, mainly about its drawbacks and possible side effects. Next, we will talk about a dendrimer called PAMAM and what it can do to a cell from a toxicology perspective. Further, we will discuss PLA, PEI, and HEMA polymers, because even they are known to be biocompatible, some toxicity drawback is also present. Next, we will talk about protein corona, and how it can affect the cytotoxicity of particles. A brief talk will be about polysaccharides, namely chitosan. And in the end, I will tell about biomimetic particles on the example of membrane-covered particles.
