Doing development differently at the last mile | BRAC

Three in every 10 people in the haor (wetland) regions of northeastern Bangladesh live in poverty. The communities often cannot access basic services, such as education, healthcare and information due to distance, language barriers and lack of adequate infrastructure.
To address such complex challenges, BRAC started working with the communities with a holistic approach in 2013, focusing on addressing inequalities and ensuring access to basic services through needs-based, holistic interventions.

1.7 million people living in the last mile have accessed basic services through this integrated approach so far. BRAC’s work in northeastern Bangladesh is supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Canada’s Foreign Policy-Global Affairs Canada.
