She found it in the box she'd moved twice without opening.
The handwriting was hers but from a different decade — the specific slope of someone she had been.
The thing she was most worried about in the third entry resolved itself by seventeen.
She thought about what she'd tell her. Then thought: she wouldn't have believed me.
Old handwriting. Same hand. She got here. She made it to the hallway with the box.

I found it in the box that I moved twice without opening
The particular notebook from the year that was a lot
And I sat down with it on the floor in the hallway
Which is not where you decide to stop but where I stopped
The handwriting was mine but from a different decade
The specific slope of someone I had been
And the thing I was most worried about in the third entry
Was the thing that resolved itself by seventeen
I read the version of me that was planning
And the version that was falling apart in May
And the version that was certain about the thing that didn't happen
And the version that was right about everything that stayed
And I thought about what I would tell her
The version on the page with the particular slope
And then I thought she wouldn't have believed me
Which is both comforting and also not much hope

I want to tell her everything is going to be different
Not better or worse, just specifically this
